When Marpa finally caught up with Naropa he found him living in poverty in a very simple house in the forests of Bengal. He was most disappointed and worried as to how one so great a guru as Naropa reputed to be the best since the Tathagata, could be so situated. He had thought he would be in a highly evolved environment, a great big institute sorrounded a bevy of bhikhus begging for him benevolence and teaching. But because of the great culture shock of India from his native Tibet and also because the immense reputation of Naropa outstripped his stripped sorroundings, he made some snap adjustment to his viewpoint and came to the conclusion that perhpas this was the way Indian Teachers of Transcendence lived and so gave all his gold to Naropa and bowed to be taught but not before insisting on being taken in AS HE WAS WHICH WAS. . .
unacceptible as well as unexceptionable
to say the least!
which was. . .
NAROPA HAD A PAST WHICH WAS. . .very ah!
